Does my small business really need a website?
Instagram is running, customers come by word of mouth — so why bother with your own website? An honest answer with four questions that show whether the effort is worth it for you. And when you can save the money.

"But I have Instagram" — we hear that sentence a lot. And it is not wrong. Not every business needs its own website right away. But there are four situations in which not having a website costs you customers, concretely. Go through them quickly and you will know where you stand.
Question 1: Do your customers search for you on Google?
The decisive difference between a website and social media: on Instagram and Facebook you have to *be* found. On Google, people search actively — precisely when they need something right now. Whoever types "hairdresser Pankow" or "electrician near me" wants an appointment today, not in two weeks.
When your customers search for your service instead of stumbling upon it by chance, a website is not a luxury — it is your showroom.
Question 2: Do you own your presence?
On Instagram you are building on someone else's land. If your account is blocked, hacked or the platform changes its rules, your entire visibility is gone — and you can no longer reach your followers. Your own website belongs to you. Domain, content, contact details: all under your control.
That is why the most honest answer is usually not "website or social media", but both. Social media for reach, the website as a fixed address that no one can take away from you.
Question 3: Do you sell something that needs explaining or is expensive?
The more trust a decision requires, the more important a website becomes. A tradesperson, a practice, a consulting offer — here customers want to know beforehand: Who is this? What does it roughly cost? Does it look reputable?
For an impulse buy of €5, a good photo is enough. For a job worth several hundred euros, most people check first — and if they find nothing, they often go with the provider they were able to vet.
Question 4: Is your current approach costing you time?
Do you answer the same questions every day? Opening hours, prices, how to get there, "do you have that in stock?" A website handles all that while you work. Opening hours, services, price range and a way to get in touch — written down once, it saves you time every week.
When you can skip a website
Honestly: not everyone needs one. You can do without for now if all of these points apply to you:
- You are fully booked and are not looking for new customers.
- Your customers come almost exclusively through personal recommendation.
- Your offer is self-explanatory and inexpensive.
- You have a well-maintained Google Business Profile with opening hours and reviews.
If that is the case, the Google Business Profile is the more important first step — it is free and puts you into local search and Google Maps. That is what we tell customers who ask us for a website, too: if the profile is missing, that is where we start.
"But that is expensive and a lot of work"
That is the most common thing holding people back — and it is no longer true. For a simple, clean site with an introduction, services and contact, our entry price is from €299. No forced subscription for features you will never use.
And the effort on your side is smaller than many think: essentially, we need from you what you do, for whom, and how to reach you. We take care of the text and the structure.
The honest test in one sentence
Search Google once for your service plus your neighbourhood — the way a customer would. Do you find yourself on the first page? If not: those exact enquiries are currently going to someone else.
If you are unsure whether a site is worth it for you, just tell us briefly what you do. The initial consultation is free, and if we think you do not need one, we will tell you that too.
Frequently asked questions
Is Instagram not enough for my small business? For reach, yes; for being found, only to a limited extent. On Google people search deliberately for a service, while on Instagram they tend to notice it by chance. The ideal is both: social media for visibility, the website as your own fixed address.
What does a simple website for a small business cost? At Blekic Services a website starts at €299. The exact price depends on the scope — you get a transparent quote up front, with no hidden costs.
Do I need a website or a Google Business Profile first? If both are missing, the Google Business Profile is the faster first step: free and immediately visible in local search. The website complements it and gives you control over your presence.
How long does it take until my website is online? That depends on the scope. A simple site is finished much faster than a shop with many features — we tell you the timeframe up front, together with the quote.
